Yarm School

Yarm School has been situated on it’s current site at the end of Yarm High Street since 1978. The time had come for the replacement of the dated timber windows in the History & Classics Department block. The main priority being to give classrooms in the building higher levels of ventilation. Given this, Polar advised that linked sash windows would be the best solution, as these allow fresh air to enter via the bottom opening, whilst stale air exits via the top opening. Polar then also went on to replace the old framing system which allowed views from a staff area, out onto the sports area outside. The new curtain wall system which incorporates top hung windows allows high levels of natural light and ventilation into the space.

Working with the client from an early stage allowed us to inform and support them on what would work best for this project. The coloured glass was provided by Dual Seal and adds some character to the old building, helping it continue it’s place in the ever developing campus at Sunderland University.
